POOJA THAKUR Jammu, Oct 3 Containing Dengue outbreak in Jammu division is turning out to be a major challenge for administration as the number of cases are rising on a daily basis. In order to understand more about the vector borne disease, Young Bites talked to Dr. Vasudha Vij about the preventive measures and remedies for containing the deadly disease which causes several deaths due to lack of awareness. “The most common symptom of dengue is fever accompanied by nausea, vomiting, Rash and body pains. Aches and pains (eye pain, typically behind the eyes, muscle, joint, or bone pain)”, said Dr. Vasudha. Doctors said that dengue fever usually occurs after an incubation period of 2 to 4 days after the bite of the infected mosquito. High Fever (104°F) is usually accompanied by at least two of the following symptoms: Headaches. Pain behind eyes. Dr. Vasudha said there is no specific medicine to treat dengue. “Medicines are mainly provided to control fever and ease body pains. However one should watch for signs and symptoms of severe dengue. Aegypti is recognized by white stripes on its legs. With the monsoon season over, the dry weather and humid weather is becoming a perfect condition for the breeding of dengue mosquitoes’, she said. She said that people should ensure that water should not be allowed to gather in coolers, pots, old discarded types. The vector loves to bread in clean water.
