New Delhi, July 13 Ashmita Chaliha and Mithun Manjunath, on Wednesday, July 13, secured wins to grab the headlines on Day 2 of the ongoing Singapore Open Super 500. Mithun defeated World championship silver medallist Kidambi Srikanth 21-17 15-21 21-18 in the men's singles. Ashmita, on the other hand, beat World No.1 Busanan Ongbamrungphan 21-16 21-11 in the w o m e n ' s singles. M i t h u n , who’s also the world no.77, will next lock horns with Nhat Nguyen, even as Ashmita will face Han Yue from China. P V Sindhu, who’s a twotime Olympic medallist, and HS Prannoy advanced to the second round of the tournament Sindhu dominated her opponent and beat Belgium World No.36 Lianne Tan 21-15 21-11. The youngster is next scheduled to cross swords with Thuy Linh Nguyen from Vietnam. Prannoy, who had earlier qualified for the semi-finals at the Malaysia Masters, defeated Thailand's Sitthikom Thammasin 21-13 21-16. He will next be up against Chou Tien Chen, whom he had defeated at the M a l a y s i a Open. Saina Nehwal, who won the bronze medal in the London Olympics, beat Malvika Bansod 21-18 21-14 and progressed to the second round.
