IMD sounds orange alert for 12 Kerala districts, heavy rainfall to continue

Thiruvananthapuram, May 19 The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rainfall in Kerala and has sounded an orange alert for 12 districts in the state. The IMD has sounded an alert for Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam, Alappuzha, and Pathanamthitta. As per the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall has been predicted for Kerala for the next 48 hours, following which intensity would reduce from May 21. No warning has been sounded for Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam for Thursday. The weather agency said that heavy rainfall is expected to lash Kerala and Lakshadweep for the next five days along with thunderstorms. Kerala has been experiencing heavy rainfall for the past few days and it has disrupted normal life in certain places of the state. As per the PTI report, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority said cyclonic circulation over northern Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas would lead to isolated very heavy rainfall in several parts of Kerala. Kerala's capital Thiruvanathapuram is likely to experience cloudy sky conditions with a few spells of rain and thunderstorms on Friday morning. The maximum temperature is expected to settle at 27 degrees Celsius. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has forecast widespread rain in the state for the next 5 days with chances of isolated.
