Er Abhà Gupta/ Pooja Thakur Jammu, Nov 30 Q: What are your views on women empowerment? A: If we talk about today’s woman I think that women are quite empowered. Today’s women have become self dependent. Woman is exploring various areas and she is not only supporting herself but her family as well. Q: Tell us something about your journey so far? A: With the support of parents I worked hard throughout my student life to achieve the place where I am today. I will say that if I am empowered then the major contribution again remains woman in the form of mother, sister. I have been serving in various departments. Earlier I was in commercial taxes department for 10 years then I came in GMC and then tourism. Now I am in industries. In every department we have tried our best to empower the women. Q: What do you think are the reasons behind the woman who have not been empowered yet? A: For a woman to get empowered the two factors which count the most are hard work and support of the family, be it the support of parents or the support of husband and in-laws. So I request the families to support the decisions taken by the women. Q: What are the various ways in which industry sector supports the woman? A: Our department supports self-employment of women. Right now we are running knitting course for the ladies in Jammu Haat. I think nowadays the craze of knitting is fading from a society so I request the women especially those who are living in the rural areas to take part in the skill development so that they can get employment of some kind or the other. Here we not only teach them hand knitting but also teach them stitching on the machines. So the ladies who want to get self employed can open their boutiques, small industries in the later stage. We also provide certificates for those who complete the courses. In the urban sector the government is providing 25% subsidy in loan and in the rural sector the government is providing 35% subsidy in loan to the women who want to start some venture of their own. We want the woman to be the job creators not the job seekers. Q: There are many schemes by the government but unfortunately those schemes do not reach the common masses why? A: We keep on upgrading the people on various schemes. For upgradation and for the knowledge of the people we organise camps, we give advertisements on radios, newspapers as well so that the people are aware of the schemes and take the maximum benefit out of them. Other than this we have our Facebook handle, Twitter handle, we have many followers. We are doing our best so that the scheme riches general masses. Q: What change have you observed in the society? A: I think that women are turning up in huge numbers to take benefit of the schemes. Now women are exploring vast fields like housekeeping, baking and so many other different areas. For motivating the females the department is playing a major role. We have a dedicated help desk at the entrance of the department. The people who have queries on various schemes are provided with a valuable information. Help desk is open from 10 AM to 4:30 PM and people are free to come here for their queries. Other than this our Facebook handles and Twitter handles are also helping the people a lot.
