ER ABHA GUPTA/ POOJA THAKUR Jammu, Nov 22 Q: Tell us something about your journey as President, Chemist Association? A: I started the profession in medical trade in the year 1988. Under the able guidance of Mr Kapoor who was the President of the chemist Association he taught me so many things about this profession. I got elected as the President in the year 2010 because I wanted to work for the people who were working in the medical profession. That time my prime focus was narcotics because most of the chemist were linked with the narcotics those days. People used to blame the chemist for narcotics supply in the society but I want to say that the people who were linked with narcotics had no connection with the chemist fraternity. The people dealing with drugs were entirely different and I wanted to prove it to the society. Q: So how did you investigated on this issue of narcotics? A: We did the full research of the market and with the help of police and concerned authorities we reached the people behind the narcotics and drugs mafia. With the help of police the black sheeps were traced and we got a relief that now the chemist won’t be blamed for the drugs. Q: What were the issues faced by chemists during Covid crisis? A: The major issue that arose during Covid crisis was the shortage of medicines. We had already made a plan that medicines should not be short in J&K, as a result within a span of 10 to 12 days we had enough supply of medicines. My wife is also a corporator and with her help also we tried our level best to help each and every person who needed the help. With the rising cases of Covid again the government has imposed night curfew from 10 PM to 5 AM. Which really shows that Corona has not gone, people should take all the precautions so that we do not face the third wave. Q: Tell us something about the initiatives you took during Covid times first? A: There is a company called mankind pharma which gives medicines at very low prices with 100% efficacy. This company gave compensation to the Corona warriors who lost their lives during COVID. They gave Rs.5,00,00 to doctors, Rs.3,00,00 to chemists and police personnel who worked during corona times to help the people. Company has distributed around 130 crore rupees to the corona warriors who died on duty. Through your medium I would like to request the government that they should also take initiative in giving compensation because there are many Corona warriors who died during duty but will haven’t got compensation yet.
