VIJAY GUPTA Jammu, Apr 15 The decision of the ‘Vikas Purush’ Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, to defer Darbar Move is appreciable. The decision to not shift winter capital to summer capital, though, amid surge in COVID-19 cases will save a lot of time and taxpayers’ money. The annual Darbar Move in Jammu and Kashmir was a tradition during the rule of Dogra rulers who used to move to Kashmir during summers and again back to Jammu during winters but unfortunately the practice is still going on. The annual Darbar Move drains kitty of J&K government as it pays crores as fare for transportation besides huge amount is paid to the employees of the Civil Secretariat as move allowance. However, the wastage of time in closing of Darbar in Jammu and opening of Darbar in Srinagar wastages a lot of time and during this period administration work hampers badly and the ultimate sufferer is a gullible citizen. Moreover the decision to not move offices to Kashmir will also help in containing the spread of the novel corona virus as the nation and Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is under the grip of the second wave.
