New Delhi, Apr 15 Glenn Maxwell was one of the biggest overseas buys of all time in Indian Premier League history, as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) recruited him for INR 14.25 cr in the 2021 auction. The Australian allrounder and power-hitter had a forgettable season in IPL 2020 and the high price tag was questioned by many fans. However, Maxwell kicked off the IPL 2021 season with back to back impressive knocks for Virat Kohli’s team and has earned rich praise for the same. He scored 39 off 28 in RCB’s opener against Mumbai Indians and a match-winning 41-ball 59 against SRH on Wednesday. Former India batsman Gautam Gambhir has hailed Maxwell for his performances in the 14th edition of the marquee T20 league so far. “It was important for RCB. They put a lot of money and lot of faith in him. He had to deliver. Good that he has started the tournament very well. He is continuing from that first innings,” Gambhir said post the match on Wednesday, on Star Sports. “It was a very important innings (against SRH). it was an easy wicket, especially against Rashid Khan. He was very smart as well. He didn’t take any risk against Rashid. And the most important thing, he stayed till the end," he further added.
