SHUBAM GUPTA Jammu, Feb 28 According to a famous saying, charity begins at home and so does cleanliness. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took it upon himself to start a Swachh Bharat movement in India. Unfortunately, this movement has turned out to be a farce in Jammu. The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 2, 2014, but it seems that there are no takers to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dream project 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' in Jammu as particular and J&K as a whole. The ground reality is different from the desired results. In an interview with Young Bites, Narinder Singh Jamwal Chairman JMC said that he visits the Ward with his team on Tuesday and Saturday. Appropriate guidelines were followed during the tour and a list of unhygienic Wards was prepared according to the survey. Residents are to equally blame for the unsanitary conditions in the city. Even after several cleanliness campaigns by the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, there is no visible change on the ground. Blocked drains, leaking sewage pipes and garbage strewn on roads in the city tell a tale of neglect and the indifferent attitude of the residents. “Rather than investing in advertisements and rallies, the JMC is investing in manpower and technology to improve sanitation in the city. In the core city area, 7 lakh people live within the municipal limits. Jammu city generates around 600 tonnes of waste every day, but its disposal continues to be a problem. JMC focus will not only be limited to clean and green Jammu but the overall development of the city and take every possible step to make Jammu Smart City Project a reality. According to top priority to PM’s Mission of Swacch Bharat and for proper solid waste management in the city, several new projects will be taken up soon for a clean and green Jammu.
