Denmark smashes men’s team pursuit world record for third time in two days

Denmark has again smashed the men’s team pursuit world record at the Track World Championships in Berlin. Going into Track Worlds the record sat at 3:48.012 for the 4 km effort, a mark set by the Australian team at the 2019 Worlds in Poland. The Danish squad took 1.5 seconds off that time in qualifying, a further 0.3 of a second during the first round, and then another 1.6 seconds in Thursday’s final to win the world title. In the gold medal ride against New Zealand, the quartet of Lasse Norman Hansen, Julius Johansen, Frederik Rodenberg Madsen and Rasmus Pedersen covered 4 km in an astonishingly fast 3:44.672 — an average speed of 64.093 kph and the first-ever sub- 3:45 recorded time. Day two of the 2020 Track Worlds also saw the USA win gold in the women’s team pursuit, handily beating Great Britain in the gold medal ride. The five-day Track World Championships continues Friday where finals will be raced in the men’s points race, the men’s 1 km ITT, the men’s individual pursuit, and the women’s sprint. The women’s omnium also gets underway.
