New Delhi, July 9 Former India opener and Ranji legend Wasim Jaffer feels that young batsman Prithvi Shaw has the ability to demolish bowling attacks like Virender Sehwag but he needs to finetune certain aspects of himself. Shaw had a sensational Test debut as the second youngest Test centurion from India before an ankle injury and a failed dope test kept him out for 16 months. Some disciplinary issues have also been talked about quite often in Indian cricket circles for some time now. After being out of action from the international stage for more than a year, Prithvi Shaw was handed his maiden ODI call-up for the upcoming 3-match series in New Zealand from February 5. Prithvi Shaw has suffered a tumultuous period over the last 12 months. Starting from the ankle injury that marred his maiden trip to Australia with the senior team to the doping ban that created a flutter, Shaw went through a tough phase wherein he wasn't "feeling too well". "I think he is a special player, without a doubt. The shots he hits, if he gets going, he has the ability of Virender Sehwag I feel," Jaffer told Aakash Chopra on his YouTube channel. "He can completely demolish an attack. But somewhere I feel he needs to understand his game better, where he needs to take a backseat. I feel he got found out a little bit in New Zealand, got dismissed two times off a short delivery. He fell into their trap." Jaffer feels Shaw needs to control himself in that aspect to become a bigger, more successful player for India. "I also feel that he needs to get more disciplined in his off-field life. Because I feel he has the game to succeed at the international level. But he needs to be a lot more disciplined outside cricket also," Wasim Jaffer added.
