Never ignore pain, don’t gulp painkillers: Dr. Rohit

RL: Pain has bad effect on our mental as well as physical health. Chronic pain is defined as the pain which is incurable. If not treated in time chronic pain leaves a deep effect on patient psychologically. If not taken care and proper treatment chronic pain can lead to depression and physical changes. Q. What kind of pain is most common among patients? RL: Pain is divided into two categories one is the common sensual sort that arises from damaged tissue and is nociceptive pain. The other is more exotic kind that comes from damage to the system that reports and interprets damage to the nervous system and is called neuropathic pain. But these days cancer pain is increasing as third type of pain in the society. Most people are suffering from mechanical back pain, cervical pain and knee joint pain due to their age and physical health. But nowadays teenagers are suffering from neck and other pains due to the wrong sitting postures. Q. What is your advise to patients? RL: Pain is message from our body to brain that something is wrong inside our body. People should never ignore it as it leads to major health issues. People gulp up painkillers and other strong drugs to control pain and these medicines affect other organs like kidney and liver. People must visit a doctor in order to take proper treatment. World Health Organization (WHO) had made a proper chart known as step-ladder pattern in which they strictly mentioned about the degree of pain and drug dosage.
