New Delhi, Oct 17 Exactly 11 years ago, on October 17, 2008, Indian batting great Sachin Tendulkar became the leading run-scorer in Tests, surpassing West Indian Brian Lara, who had headed the list till then. Once claimed, Tendulkar never let go of his top spot and still holds the record, having finished his career with an astonishing 15,921 Test runs. At the PCA Stadium Mohali - the venue for the 2nd Test of the Border- Gavaskar Series, Tendulkar playing in his 152nd game, went past Lara's tally of 11,953 Test runs. On reaching the milestone, a number of Australian players including Ricky Ponting and Peter Siddle came up to shake hands with the Master as fireworks took over the celebratory occasion. Tendulkar then went on to score 88 runs off just 111 balls to put India firmly in command. The BCCI paid homage to the historic moment on Thursday with a video clip from the match showing the exact moment Tendulkar claimed the record. "This Day in 2008 - @sachin_rt surpassed Brian Lara to become the highest run-scorer in Tests": BCCI captioned the video. Tendulkar's tally of 15,921 Test runs doesn't look like it will be broken anytime soon in the near future as current Indian captain Virat Kohli (7054 runs) comes the closest among active cricketers with Joe Root (7043) and Steve Smith (6973) following suit. Ponting lies 2nd on this list with 13378 runs. Having scored 18,426 runs in ODIs, Tendulkar also finished his career on top of the list of highest scorers in ODIs. Kohli (11,520) is chasing his idol in this regard as well. Tendulkar ended his stellar career with 100 international centuries - 51 in Tests and 49 in ODIs - leading the world in this aspect. However, Kohli with 43 ODI centuries to his name already, looks set to break Tendulkar's record in the one-day format.
