Havaldar Vijay Kumar attained martyrdom in militants attack in 2008 in Chinore, Jammu. The attack is still fresh in minds of people in which militants made hostage women and children of a family in Chinore. In the firing by militants Vijay Kumar was martyred.
YoungBites correspondent got an opportunity to interact with the wife of martyr to know about the early life and how life changes post martyrdom.
‘Veer Nari’ recalls that she got married atage of 21 years and says that she never accompanied her husband in any posting. The unfortunate day when her husband was martyred, she was shattered, her three kids were below six years age.
Her daughter Muskan and her son Sahil also want to join defense forces like their father.
Mother of Vijay Kumar says that her son always wanted to join Army when he was a kid. She is proud of her son who sacrificed his life for the nation.
The history taught in school books should inspire our kids to be like our warriors who chose nation as their priority. Most of the history books have taught about World Wars, Hitler, Napoleon, but hardly in any school curriculum our kids are taught about Shivaji, Guru Gobind Singh, Banda Singh Bahadur. It’s time to teach our kids about these warriors.
One more thing, in Army, the families have to vacate the accommodation after death of army personnel, and in that case it becomes very difficult for the wife of martyr to take care of her kids. The rule should be changed and the families should be given official accommodation where the family does not face problems like education, medical facilities etc.
Vijay Kumar's family got a land to make his memorial, but to construct the memorial they spend their own money. This is unfortunate. It is the responsibility of the village, Sarpanch, Leaders to make memorial.
Govt has many schemes for the kids of martyr. But many times due to lack of awareness, families do not know about the schemes. The families should from time to time visit ZilaSainik WelfareCentres as they provide a good knowledge on the schemes that are beneficial for their kids.
ZilaSainik Welfare is also going to start academy to give training to kids for NDA, IMA etc. The children of martyrs can get good training from these centres that can help in changing their life’s.
At the end a small request to the society: “Many times, the wife of martyr is not very educated, hence she is not able to guide her children as a result the children are not able to get higher ranks in the Army, it is the duty of citizens to visit their families and help them in solving their problems.Tell the ‘Veer Naris’, Veer Mata’ that we are always with them. Help their children in career counseling. Give them respect. Bow heads whenever we meet them. Never forget that the supreme sacrifice was made for us”.
