Police and Security Forces during the preceding night jointly launched a search operation based on credible inputs about the presence of militants at Nowpora area of Tujjer in Sopore.
During the searches, hiding militants fired on the search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter two militants were killed.
The identity of the killed militants is being ascertained. Some arms, ammunition and incriminating material have been recovered from the site of encounter.
Police has registered a case in this regard and the investigation has been initiated in the instant matter.
Earlier, the encounter started on Tuesday after a joint team of Army’s 22 Rashtriya Rifles, special operations group (SOG) and CRPF cordoned off the area. However, the identification of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained. Meanwhile, authorities have also snapped the internet services in the area for “security reasons.”
“This is very unfortunate that the government instantly orders for the snapping of internet services in the valley, without any reason. They never bothered about that what types of problems are being faced by the people, in the absence of the internet facilities. We become helpless without the internet services. We have to run here and there to get these services, but all in vain as in the entire area, the services are being snapped by the authorities, without any reason, said Salim Khan a local youth from the Nowpora area of Sopore district in valley.
