Encroachments continue to shrink the tawi river bed

The River Tawi which relates its identity to the city of Jammu as Jammu Tawi marks a significance importance and time after time several issues were raised from different section of society to save it, yet nothing seems to be visible on part of government to take the issues seriously.
It’s worthwhile to mention that River Tawi which originates from Kali Kund glacier near the Kaplas Mountain, Bhadarwah in the Doda district is facing a lot of problems like garbage dump, sewerage being dumped into its water, extraction of sand and stones from the river beds and grabbing of river bank lands causing huge damage to the River Tawi. Owing to fact responsible for degradation of River Tawi, Land Grabbing on the banks went on unchecked as a result different structures were raised along the bank.
Its a matter of fact that large area of costly land have been unauthorized occupied by certain influential persons along the banks of Jammu Tawi especially in the outskirts of Jammu City in convenience with officials. An area of State Land measuring 697 Kanal & 17 Marlas is under unauthorized occupation of various individuals as per the reports available
Out of 697 Kanal & 17 marlas 73 Kanal & 11 Marlas of illegally occupied land is at Nagrota, 383 Kanal & 06 Marlas is at Jammu and 241 Kanal illegally occupied land is at Jammu South. All land belong to Jammu Development Authority.
It appears to give undue benefit, revenue records were not maintained as per the title or profession of an individual. As per the reports Romesh Kumar, S/o Goran Ditta R/o Jammu Khas has illegally occupied 23 Kanal of land at Khasra Number 302, Shamsher Singh R/o Vill Khas Jammu has occupied 103 Kanal of Land at Khasra number 302, Mod Sharief S/o Gh Nabi has illegally occupied 15 Kanal of land at Village Khas, Khasra Number 302. All the three persons with malafide intention and in convenience with the officials have illegally occupied 141 Kanal of Land along the banks of Jammu Tawi.
Besides this there are several other unauthorised occupants who have constructed structures, buildings in Beli Charana, Karnal Chak and Channi areas of District Jammu.
Although anti encroachment drive was launched and just 05 unauthorised raised structures were demolished and rest of the illegal occupants were left over
Taking to Young Bites correspondent Advocate Dinesh Singh Jamwal said that its ironical that such a huge chunk of land was occupied by the people and the concerned authorities were remain mute spectators and moreover structures were also raised on illegal occupied land along River Tawi bank
He further added that merely passing the directions to the concerned revenue field officers for taking effective steps in order to remove encroachments is not enough, a lot more needful has to be done so that no such illegal occupation of any sort could take place in future and authorities should take early steps to demolish the structures and book the culprits under the provision of Law.
