Lal Singh appeals youth to participate in sports activities

Terming sports activities vital for achieving sound body and mind, Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment Ch. Lal Singh said that youth must engage themselves in sports which give physical strength besides inculcating the spirit of unity, teamwork and sportsmanship among players. He said this after witnessing final match of Cricket and Judo Tourney held at sports stadium Kathua today.
He appealed youth to refrain from the menace of drugs which is path of destruction and collapse and said in the present age of academic competition, students used to be under tremendous pressure and sports helps to relieve from it.
The Forest Minister said government has taken steps to upgrade sports infrastructure at all levels and informed that a state of art sports stadium is coming up at Basohli for which 200 kanals of land has been allocated near the Ranjit Sagar Reservoir over River Raavi. He said water sports and swimming facilities will be added feature in the stadium.
The final match of North Zone Talent Ten Cricket National Championship-2017 was held between Jammu & Kashmir and Delhi in which J&K defeated Delhi by 64 runs. The Forest minister also witnessed final matches of all weight category of District Judo Championship and gave away medals among the winners.
While taking stock of facilities, the Forest Minister directed stadium and municipal authorities to improve the sanitation in sports stadium.
DYSSO Kathua Sunil Sharma, North Zone Secretary Talent Ten Cricket Federation of India (TTCFI) Zahid Qurashi were also present on the occasion.
