Mumbai, Nov 23 A Mumbai court order, declaring former Mumbai Police commissioner Param Bir Singh as 'absconding’, was pasted outside his flat in Juhu on Tuesday. The court has asked Param Bir Singh to appear before the Magistrate or the investigating officer within 30 days from the date of the notice. While granting the same, the court directed Param Bir Singh to join the investigation. During the hearing, Param Bir Singh's lawyer said he is "very much" in the country. "He doesn’t want to abscond. He doesn’t want to run away. The issue however is that there is a very genuine threat to his life as soon as he enters Maharashtra," the lawyer added. Param Bir Singh is ready to appear before any CBI official within 48 hours if the court asks him to, the former police officer's counsel said. Last week, Param Bir Singh, who is facing multiple cases of extortion, was declared a "proclaimed offender" by a magistrate court in Mumbai. Param Bir Singh was shunted out as Mumbai police commissioner in March this year after the arrest of dismissed police officer Sachin Waze in the case of an explosivesladen vehicle found near the residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani in Mumbai. Param Bir Singh later accused the then Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh of corruption, following which the latter resigned in April. Earlier, on July 22, Marine Drive Police Station in Mumbai had registered an FIR against Param Bir Singh, five other police personnel, and two more persons for allegedly demanding Rs 15 crore from a builder. On July 23, another case of extortion was registered against him and some other police officers at Kopri police station in Thane. On July 30, Thane Nagar Police Station had registered another extortion case against Param Bir Singh and 27 others on a complaint of businessman Ketan Tanna.
