MEA’s internship experiment may be replicated in other ministries
New Delhi, Apr 16 The Ministry of External Affairs will take in about 60 interns every year in two batches, with each intern working three months with the Ministry. The idea of inviting interns for the Ministry is to offer a closer look at the working and framework of building a nation's foreign policy. While internships with the government are quite normal in countries like the US, it is almost like a novelty in India. If this model, implemented by the MEA, turns successful, the government may replicate it in other ministries and government department to bring in fresh minds. This development is seen as an initiative by the government aimed at improving its model of governance while providing real-time exposure to the young and upcoming bright minds at the same time.
