As India looks to import Oxygen, MEA handed task to explore sources

New Delhi, Apr 6 India has witnessed an unprecedented surge in new COVID infections, with around 2 lakh new positive cases reported on Thursday. Will the rise in cases, the government has felt the shortage in Oxygen for the patients facing acute infection. The Centre has decided to import 50000 Metric Tonnes (MT) of Medical Oxygen to address the shortage felt in the hospitals throughout the country. Ministry of External Affairs has been allotted the task to identify potential sources for importing Oxygen via its missions abroad. Centre has directed MOHFW to finalise the tender for the same and also explore possible sources for the import identified by the missions of MEA," the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) said in a statement.
