GDC Ramgarh organises cleanliness drive

Y B News Udhampur, Apr 15 To commemorate 75 years of India’s freedom struggle “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”, Government Degree College Ramgarh organised a cleanliness drive and Awareness lecture under the programme ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’. College administration organised two weeks series of events under the banner of above said programme. In the first week students cleaned the college campus enthusiastically and took the initiative to clean the surroundings of vicinity. Principal of the college Prof.(Dr.) Meeru Abrol told the students that cleanliness is most important for physical well-being and healthy environment. It is essential for everyone to learn about cleanliness, hygiene, sanitation and various diseases that are caused due to poor hygienic conditions. Cleanliness ensures a healthy mind and physique, she added. “It is not the responsibility of only one person rather it is the duty of every countrymen”, she added. Students are the real ambassadors of cleanliness and they were motivated to motivate others in keeping their home and surroundings clean. The students of Semester I and Semester III were divided into four groups of 12 students each and they were provided with bags to collect the polythene wrappers and loose leaves. All the students participated actively. The drive was successfully conducted with the help of all the teaching staff and Prof. Seema Sharma convened the cleanliness drive. The Committee also planned to organise a series of similar events in the second week of April to join the celebrations of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” that will continue till August 2022. Keeping this in view, lecture was delivered by Dr. Narinder Singh, Department of Sociology on the topic “Struggle for Indian Independence”. This lecture highlighted sequence of events leading to the break of shackles of slavery and attainment of Independence in August 15, 1947. Contributions of freedom strugglers belonging to different segments of society like peasants, lawyers, teachers etc. were discussed at length. This lecture paid homage to great personalities and revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Subash Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi, Veer Savarkar and many more like who laid down their lives in the altar of freedom struggle. Students took pledge to follow on the footprints of these great souls.
