On duty traffic policeman fined Rs 2,000 for not wearing mask in Odisha's Puri

Puri, Apr 14 The Odisha Police on Tuesday fined an on-duty traffic constable Rs 2,000 for not wearing a mask. Puri SP Dr Kanwar Vishal Singh said, "On being brought to our notice, we have fined our own traffic constable Rs 2,000 for not wearing a mask. And he, as a responsible citizen, has paid. Wear Mask always or pay the fine. There is no alternative." Puri SP Dr Kanwar Vishal Singh told India Today, "Today, we have fined our police constable. It is a stern message if we are not sparing our people, we will not spare anybody because it is a public health priority. Public health is our topmost priority. Honourable CM [Naveen Patnaik] has given a call to wear for 10 days mask abhiyan is going on." "We have fined 5,923 persons in the Puri district since the drive has started," Singh said. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday launched a 14-day 'mask abhiyan' as part of efforts to prevent the spread of coronavirus in view of rising cases. Asking people to wear masks, one of the tools against Covid-19, Naveen Patnaik said, "If you want your livelihood to function without any disruption, then you must wear masks."
