AAHAN PANDITA Jammu, Feb 26 While addressing a ceremony held in Beijing this past Thursday, Chinese President Xi Jinping said; that China has attained a ‘complete victory’ over extreme poverty. The communist government claimed; about 100 million citizens have been lifted above the poverty line, thus effectively putting an end to extreme poverty in China. Xi quoted this development as a ‘miracle’ that China has achieved. Astonishingly enough, China’s benchmark poverty line at $2.30 per day is significantly higher than the global threshold set by the UN at $1.25 per day and the World Bank at $1.90 per day. Since 2012, eradicating extreme poverty, especially in rural areas have been a vital initiative by the government as Xi Jinping took charge of the country. This achievement is marked as a major achievement by the Chinese media, and it surely depicts the level of efficiency concerning the implementation of social policies in China.
