Silent warriors in fight against COVID-19

Jammu, Nov 30 Indian Army deployed for undertaking Counter Insurgency Operations in Jammu and Kashmir has been waging a different battle since April 2020 in the districts of Rajouri and Poonch. The battle against COVID-19 pandemic launched under the umbrella of Sadbhavana initiative has contributed immensely in not only checking the spread of pandemic but also to a great extent insulated the population from adverse effect of frequent Lockdowns. Starting April 2020, the Rashtriya Rifles units have conducted 24 camps for the local population of the region. The Camps have been focusing on spreading awareness amongst the population of remote area and anti COVID-19 kits amounting of Rs 38,40,000/- have been distributed till date. The kits contained important items like masks, gloves, face shield, dettol soap, PPE kits and sanitizers. In a unique initiative to give a boost to local economy, the Rashtriya Rifles units sourced all the anti COVID-19 kits from locals, particularly the face mask. These camps have directly imparted training and awareness to approximately 8,595 locals of Rajouri and Poonch districts. The major villages covered included Daraba, Kulali, Faislabad, Mendhar, Salwah, Gursain JWG, Parat, Loran, Satharban, Chhatral, Kasbalari, Surankote, Pathanateer, Chhajla, Gambir Mughlan, Darhal, Saaj, Keri, Phardala, Harni, Thanamandi and Palma. The silent warriors of Rashtriya Rifles have made significant contributions in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic in the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch thereby augmenting the efforts of civil administration since April this year. The friendly approach and commitment of Rashtriya Rifles has been applauded by local population as it has ensured the people of the region remain free of disease and the spread of pandemic is contained in the region
