Patna, Nov 29 The Rashtriya Janata Dal-led grand alliance is contemplating supporting late Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan's wife Reena Paswan in the Rajya Sabha elections if the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) fields her against NDA candidate Sushil Kumar Modi. The Rajya Sabha seat fell vacant after the death of Ram Vilas Paswan on October 8. Elections are scheduled to be held on December 14. Sources close to Lalu Prasad Yadav's family say the RJD supremo and Tejashwi Yadav were willing to extend the grand alliance's support to Reena Paswan against Sushil Modi in the Rajya Sabha elections. An offer has reportedly been sent to Chirag Paswan that if the Lok Janshakti Party fields Reena Paswan for Rajya Sabha polls, then the grand alliance would support her candidature. “After the demise of Ram Vilas Paswan, we wanted the BJP to make Reena Paswan the NDA candidate and it would have been a befitting tribute to Ram Vilas Paswan, but we do not know why BJP did not give this seat to LJP. If the NDA had made Reena Paswan its candidate, the grand alliance would have given its full support to her," RJD spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav said. Chirag Paswan, however, has not responded to the offer made by the RJD. Lalu Prasad Yadav, too, is waiting for the response from the LJP chief before the party can take a decision on its next course of action. The last date for filing the nomination is December 3. Chirag Paswan, on the other hand, has made it clear that his party will support Sushil Modi's.
