Dr Padam Singh Jamwal, Professor ENT during an interaction with Young Bites correspondent describes importance of ENT hygiene POOJA THAKUR/ SAHIL BHAT 1. What are the issues related to ENT for which we must take precautions? If we deeply scrutinize, when a child is born the issues are started. Some issues are important like when a child is born he/she is not able to hear. To treat that kind of issue within the period of six months is very significant otherwise the skills of child are not developed. 2. Are there any symptoms by which we can detect the problem in the child? Normal children react to what you do or say and abnormal children do not give you any reaction. So when a child is born we must take precautions as vaccination as early as possible. And these processes are going in our hospital. When a child is born we conduct a test of ASSR. If the result of test is not fine we continue with other tests. 3. Are there any other procedures which could treat child at later period of time, if he/she is not treated at an early age? If the child is completely deaf then we give him/her therapy. If only 70 percent then we prefer hearing aids. 4. What is your view on the people who are not aware of cleaning their ear? Awareness is quite significant at every point of life. People take some issues for granted, they don’t visit doctors. Such problems must be ideally treated. People must take issues in consideration at the earlier stages so as to avoid the further loss. 5. What kind of cases do you face currently? Hearing loss, ear cancer, bleeding in ear are the issues which people take for granted and such cases are present in the people of current scenario.
