JK TOURISM POTENTIAL NEEDS TO BE REVIVED

Tourism was once the back bone of erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. But in the past lot of negative has been propagated through various media houses as a result J&K has suffered tremendously in tourism sector. Many fear, many feel unsafe while exploring various tourist destinations of J&K. But now Tourism Department is leaving no stone unturned to refresh and revive the tourism sector. Tourism Deptt aims to refresh bond with Kolkata, Mumbai, other Cities. The road show was organized at Kolkata to promote various adventure tourist destination of J&K, this was done as part of promotional campaigns across the country to attract tourists. Jammu and Kashmir Government is taking all possible measures to woo tourists and adventure enthusiasts to visit and explore the Himalayan region— assuring them safety and warm welcome. In this regard, in order to strengthen and refresh age-old bond between with West Bengal, the Department of Tourism held a road show at Kolkata as part of its promotional campaigns across the country to attract tourists. The travel show was organised in collaboration with J&K Pilgrim and Leisure Tour Operators Forum. Prominent tourism operators, travel agents, destination management companies besides regional and national media were invited at the promotional evening—who networked with the J&K’s travel agents for business opportunities and promotion of the varied tourism products. Kashmir is safe for tourism activities and hundreds of tourists are already enjoying their holidays at prime resorts like Gulmarg, Srinagar and Pahalgam. Various short films on known and off-beat destinations were also screened on the occasion. The department has already organized several road shows across the country including some of the prominent cities like Bangalore, Pune, Bhubaneswar among others. The steps by tourism department are appreciable and more and more campaigns have to be organized to boost the tourism in J&K. The media houses have to be vigilant not to spread false rumors because false rumors have a negative impact on tourism of J&K.
