FREQUENT TRAFFIC JAMS ALONG HIGHWAY BECOMES DILEMMA FOR COMMUTERS

ZAFAR BHAT Jammu, Apr 30 In Jammu and Kashmir, the Srinagar Jammu National Highway along 95 Km stretch from Udhampur to Banihal has become the nuisance of traffic jam for transporters and commuters because of the four-laning and traffic mismanagement. However, presently the stretch from Udhampur to Banihal has been famously known as for traffic jam which remains long for hours where the suspension of traffic has become a routine affair. The central and state government has launched many schemes for road construction and four laning of the highway, but there are one or other rationales for long hours Jam Particularly the stretch from Udhampur to Chenani on the National Highway has become an every day predicament for commuters. Unfortunately, the patients have to endure impenetrability due to traffic Jam in emergency cases. Whereas, some serious loss of the traffic jam affect the students, employees, teachers and other professional. Notably there occurs many incidents in which students have overlooked their exams. Moreover, the employees don’t reach at times to their offices. If this sufferance longs for a few days that could be bearable, but it’s happening from last many years. As, the highway has developed potholes and ditches which requires immediate repairing. Interestingly, the companies to whom the government has offered to work on the national highway are also conscientious for the traffic Jam. The commuters alleged that the work was going on at snail’s pace. They alleged that the contractors have failed to build an alternate road near execution sites for the convenience of the people. “The condition of the National Highway has gone from bad to worse as the no repair and maintenance work has been executed by the contractor companies,” they said. Meanwhile, mismanagement of traffic by traffic police add to the factor of causes of traffic Jam. Rarely the police personnel are deployed for traffic management on the stretch. When the traffic Jam is caused, passenger stranded for 5 to 10 hours. Indeed, the government, administration and the concerned authorities need to undertake the action to end this menace of traffic Jam. Jammu to Udhampur national highway stretch is the example which should be adopted for the national highway from Udhampur to Srinagar. But some unknown reasons the matter for a national highway without traffic Jam is continuously hanging in balance. By the unplanned digging along the highway, the air pollution has increased in Samroli, Bali Nallah and other areas along the highway.
