Rameshwar Singh Medical Officer, PSC KOTHI Chandihar in Tehsil Bani interacted with the YoungBites correspondent and highlighted the plight of the medical facilities of Tehsil Bani.
Rameshwar said, “There are 12 posts of doctors and 6 specialists posts like gynecologist, physician etc but unfortunately there is no specialist and the health center is being run by just two doctors”.
“Ideally the health center should have atleast 17 -18 doctors and 5-6 specialists doctors. But due to negligence of the government the people of the area are crying for medical facilities. The Hospital islying vacant due to lack of doctors and basic facilities”, he adds.
“There are 3 PSC’s which are being run by staff from NRHM. It takes 3-5 hours to reach the PSC’s that too by foot. All the PSCs are in shamble. In PSCs there should be OPDs, emergency and wards which means there should be atleat 15 rooms for the patients. But you will be surprised to know that there is just one room. This one room serves as a ward, emergency room, delivery room and even I also stay in the same room. I am working here from last four years, but the condition is same from last 20 years”, he says.
Rameshwar further adds, “Local people have donated land to provide them medical facilities but that too hasn’t been utilized properly. Bani Tehsil has struggled a lot, we have done strike for 32 days, even I got termination orders for raising my voice, I was denied ofAPR’s. There are many doctors who are enjoying their services in city and they are earning in lakhs while doing private practice, but there are many who are still struggling here to get basic amenities. It is difficult for us to handle serious cases, due to lack of facilities, there are no ambulances so many patients die in between. The distance between Bani and Kathus is around 150Km so many times patients die while going to Kathua Hospital”.
One appeal he makes,” I appeal to the Governor to give us facilities, kindly help us, give us doctors, regularize the doctors, give us equal work equal pay”.
