Farmers need organic farming to boost yield & income

ZAFAR BHAT Jammu, Sep 30 For quality improvement and capacity building of saffron and chili farmers, there is need of training J&K’s farmers on modern practices and problems, besides training them on value addition, quality control and better marketing for better economic gain from the cultivation of saffron and chilli. However, on through various training programmes, participants will acquire knowledge and skills on advanced practices related to cultivation processing, preservation, packaging, and marketing of saffron, so that they can be exposed to latest developments and technology in the field of saffron. Notably saffron is the most expensive spice in the world, which grows in only a few places and fortunately. Introduction of new technology is the field of saffron cultivation is need of the hour, which will explore new vistas in the field and will help in increasing the saffron farmers’ income. However, participants should take up of such training programme must offer all the opportunities to be acquainted with latest techniques in saffron cultivation. Adoption of organic farming is requisite for boosted yield and the world market is open for our produce. There is need and importance of well-trained professionals so that the farmers at grass root level can be trained. The world has changed and in order to be relevant and keep our farming community relevant in the rapidly changed global scenario. Pertinently, organic agriculture is an integrated farming system that strives for sustainability, the enhancement of soil fertility and biological diversity whilst, with rare exceptions, prohibiting synthetic pesticides, antibiotics, synthetic fertilizers, genetically modified organisms, and growth hormones. Organic agricultural methods are internationally regulated and legally enforced by many nations, based in large part on the standards set by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM), an international umbrella organization for organic farming organizations established in 1972.
