Jammu and Kashmir Police has initiated stern action against all those parking their vehicles wrongly who thereby obstructing the smooth movement of traffic in the cities as the traffic police have come up with a ‘locking gadget’ to check the wrong parking of vehicles in Jammu city.
The drive against the wrongly parked vehicles by the traffic police at no-parking zones has not only created huge confusion among vehicle commuters, but also put them into a lot of difficulty.
The ‘locking gadget’ will be fixed to the rear tyre of the wrongly parked vehicle with a warning pasted on it Once it is fixed, the vehicle will be locked and can’t be moved from the place, the vehicle will be released only after the owner produces its documents and pays the penalty.
The demonstration process of newly introduced ‘locking gadget’ was completed on Wednesday and the gadget was officially introduced on Thursday.
The new device will enable the traffic cops to tighten the noose on the wrongly parked vehicles and will be used to challan wrongly parked four-wheelers only.
It is worthwhile to mention here that in spite of strict measures introduced by the traffic police, it has been found that many drivers pay no heed to norms, inconveniencing other drivers and commuters. About three years ago, the traffic police had started a special drive against on-street parking violation by pasting notices on the windscreen of the vehicles, as parking vehicles along narrow roads and in front of buildings has been causing traffic problems across the city.
Even in the past the traffic wing of the police department came up with many awareness programmes on the movement of vehicles and guidelines on wrong parking, but the system was still not working properly, with the introduction of new device, drive had been launched in Jammu city and would be extended to other areas, depending upon its success.
The notice was served on the violator by pasting it on the windscreen of the vehicle under Section 133 (obstructive/wrong parking) and Section 187 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, which carried a punishment of imprisonment for a term that may not exceed three months or a fine extended to Rs 500 or both
