BC road nallah putting serious threat to environment, shopkeepers

The shopkeepers of bus stand, BC road in Jammu now a days are facing serious problem of non cleanliness of drainage nallah flowing back side of market.
The particular nallah has become dumping ground for municipal garbage, human and animal excreta, organic waste matter, etc.
The environmental impact of such a polluted canal is enhanced by the presence of a large number of dhabhas and eatable points wells in the vicinity.
Despite throwing of garbage into such drainage add to the pollution level, the pollution level continues to soar as heaps of garbage can be seen floating on its waters. However, laxity of the district administration ensures that there is no check on it.
Heaps of garbage, foul smell emitting from nallah have made the life of adjacent shopkeepers at hell.
Talking to Young Bites correspondent shopkeepers allege that there is hardly any attempt by the authorities to clean the drainage flowing here. Moreover they added that as monsoon season is approaching authorities should take the cleanliness of this nallah as early as possible.
Another Shopkeeper running a dhabha said that they always fear choking of nallagh due to heavy rains and asked the authorities to put slab over the nallah and clean the nallah at the earliest before any outbreak take place.
A glimpse to the particular drainage clearly shows that any time due to heavy rains it is vulnerable to pollution ranging from small accidental spills that quickly disperse to major problems causing significant damage to the environment as well as nearby shopkeepers.
Several passengers talking to Young Bites correspondent said that it was nearly impossible to stand on its bank due to the foul stench being emitted from it round the clock.
The nallah has become a bane due to severe air and water pollution and due to non cleaning and desilting the nallah has become a source of life-threatening diseases.
