Rise in number of traffic accidents has been cause of concern and with which alarming pace accidents are happening in day to day life and have put the question mark on the condition of roads. These incidents have shed a wave of shock among the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
As per the reports, the menace is taking a great toll on human lives now than it was earlier. In the past there were road accidents occuring rarely is hardly any day left when there are no road accidents even sometimes fatal.
A many as approximately there are more than 600,000 vehicles in the state which make it very high number but as far as the roads which are termed as the lifeline for transport system has become death traps. Not only the motor accidents are the cause of concern but there were several instances where pedestrians have been either killed or injured due to negligence on the part of drivers or because of encroached footpaths as well as wrong parked vehicles as pedestrians are left with no option to use the road putting life in danger.
Talking to Young Bites correspondent several road users said that nowadays walking on road side or crossing road is a fearful and there always seems a chance of accident as we find it hard to get along a road without fear of being hit by a passing vehicle.
The concerned authorities are lagging far behind in laying new roads so that the increasing flow of traffic could be regulated in a smooth manner without the roads getting congested, clogged or jammed for hours together. Now doubt in past few month several steps have been taken by IG traffic and have yielded positive results beyond assumption yet unless and until everyone owes a moral responsibility towards such incidents and use road sensibly nothing much can be achieved to decrease the road accidents.
In the last two decades, the number of vehicles has increased many folds while as the space available has been shrinked and has resulted in chaos on the roads making it pathetic for road users and vehicle operators.
Although traffic police has tightened the noose on the violators but there were several instances in the past where indiscriminate issuance of driving licenses was noticed to those who do not undergo any proper trainings and subsequent tests for securing the licenses as per the rules.
Not only this one can also see the younger ones driving passenger vehicles rashly without anyone taking notice of the killings. In most of the cases it is these untrained drivers who are seen hitting and crushing people on several incidents.
It is high time that authorities should prepare an effective plan to overcome this issue and implement it in true letter and spirit so that precious lives can be saved from accidents. The drivers need to be properly educated too and parents should owe moral responsibility that their young ones shall not drive any vehicle without obtaining proper license after following the norms laid.
