HGVs remuneration hike under examination: Hanjura

Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura today informed the House that the matter regarding enhancement of Duty Allowances of Home Guard Volunteers (HGV) is under examination, in consultation with the Department of Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affair and the Finance Department.

The Minister was replying on behalf of Minister Incharge for Home, to a Calling Attention Notice by MLC, Vibod Gupta in Upper House.

The Minister informed the House that the engagement of HGVs is voluntary in its character, which are called for 90 days call up and 60 days training in a year.

Presently, “for the call up period, Home Guard Volunteers are
being paid Rs 60 per day as duty allowances for a period of 90 days in a calendar year and Rs 135 including duty training allowance plus Rs 30 mess charges for 60 days training in a year,” he added.

He further noted that during the call up period, HGVs are utilized for assisting the Police in duties like Traffic management, assisting Hajj pilgrimage and Shri Amar Nath Ji Yatra, besides augmenting the Police workforce in Bandobast duties.

MLC demanded for the regularization of VHGs in order to lessen their miseries.
