Virginia State University shooting live updates: Campus on lockdown after shooting, at least one injured

Shooting on campus on the final day of homecoming triggered a lockdown in Virginia State University on Saturday night. The university police asked people to avoid the the area. “Shooting on Campus – VSU is on lockdown. Avoid the area. Updates to follow,” they tweeted.
In a second tweet, police said they are still at the scene.
The university’s website says the Petersburg, Virginia school was celebrating the final day of its homecoming.
WTVR-TV, a CBS affiliate, reported that at least one person was shot and is said to be critical. Sources told the news channel that a person was shot in the pelvis and was rushed to VCU Medical Center. Several fights broke out in the wake of the shooting, it reported.
Earlier this month, in one of the worst mass shootings in US history, 58 people were killed at a country music festival in Las Vegas.
